ROGERS MEDIA PARTNERS WITH CANADIAN WOMEN’S FOUNDATION FOR THREE-HOUR ON-AIR FUNDRAISER TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN, MAY 9

 

- ‘Morning for Change’ fundraiser to air on Breakfast Television and Rogers Radio stations across the country -

- Canadians invited to tune in and donate to help change the lives of women and children suffering from violence and poverty in our communities -

- CityNews and CityNews Channel to provide updates throughout the day on total funds raised from across Canada -

 

 

(Toronto – May 7, 2012) On Wednesday, May 9 – Citytv’s leading morning show, Breakfast Television and select Rogers Radio stations across the country are teaming up to host Morning for Change– asix-city, live, on-air fundraiser in support of the Canadian Women’s Foundation,a charity thataims to end violence against women while helping women and girls to reach their full economic and social potential.

 

Morning for Change will air from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. local time in six cities, with popular on-air personalities from Breakfast Television and Rogers Radio joining forces to broadcast from Citytvstudios in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg, as well as Lite 92.9 in Halifax. During the special broadcasts, Canadians will hear empowering andinspirational stories on how survivors of domestic abuse rebuilt their lives. Rogers Media on-air personalities will show their support by taking donation calls in the Breakfast Television studio.

 

Viewers and listeners will be encouraged throughout the broadcasts to donate by calling a toll-free hotline at 1-877-981-2434.  Immediately following the live broadcast, viewers and listeners can donateonline atCitytv.com. The donation grand total will be announced the following morning on Breakfast Television and participating Rogers Radio stations.

 

“This is our eighth year partnering with the Canadian Women’s Foundation to raise awareness and funds in support of this truly outstanding cause,” said Shannon Valliant, Vice President, Financial Operations, Rogers Media. “We are confident that our viewers and listeners will join us in helping to make a difference in the lives of abused women and children across the country.”

 

Throughout the year, Rogers Media supports the Canadian Women’s Foundation through various fundraising initiatives such as Women Moving Women from The Shopping Channel, Empower Hour from Rogers Media TV and Radio, Women Who Move You from Chatelaine, and FLARE’s involvement with Tea for Two.

 

“Recent stats show that on any given day, more than 3,000 women and 2,500 children are living in an emergency shelter to escape domestic violence,” Beverley Wybrow, CEO, Canadian Women’s Foundation. “Money raised from Morning for Change will also help to teach young people about healthy relationships and counsel children who have witnessed violence.”
