(Toronto – November 9, 2011) Rogers Media honours fallen Canadian soldiers and veterans this Friday, Nov. 11 with live, multiplatform coverage of Remembrance Day across the country. From television and radio, to online – Rogers Media brands unite to commemorate our country’s heroes.
Highlighting all angles of Toronto’s Remembrance Day ceremony, CityNews Channel and CityNews.ca bring viewers an in-depth look at the live memorial held from the cenotaph at Old City Hall. Anchored by Gord Martineau, CityNews Channel will begin its live Remembrance Day coverage beginning at 10am ET on digital channel 1. As part of the comprehensive broadcast, CityNews reporters will be on-site speaking with veterans, spectators and city counsellors honouring Canadian soldiers from the First and Second World Wars, Korea and Afghanistan. Also, CityNews Anchor/Reporter Avery Haines will be live on location covering Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre’s Remembrance Day ceremonies . A moment of silence for those lives lost will be observed on Citytv and CityNews Channel at 11am ET. Later, CityNews will recap the day’s events on the 5pm ET, 6pm ET and 11pm ET newscasts, followed by a CityNews and CityNews Channel half-hour special A Day of Remembrance at 11:30pm ET.
Today and tomorrow, Andrew Krystal speaks with veterans who share their heroic stories and legacy with viewers in a commemorative Remembrance Day series CityNews at Six. These focused segments include items on the Second World War, Korea and the life of the modern day soldier.
To complement the television broadcast, CityNews.ca will stream CityNews Channel’s Remembrance Day coverage live – both on the web and on mobile devices via the CityNews iPhone & iPad apps. Plus, CityNews.ca will feature focused content including news stories, commemorative photo galleries and Andrew Krystal’s Remembrance Day series.
