(TORONTO – September 15, 2011) Once again, Citytv proved it’s a competitor in prime time as established summer hit America’s Got Talent (AGT) garnered 1.5 million viewers nationally (Ind. 2+, national). Hot on the heels of Tuesday night’s penultimate episode, last night’s finale edged out its reality competitor, Global’s Big Brother, with more viewers tuning into Citytv’s five markets for AGT than Big Brother on a national network.

In the highly-anticipated finale, crooner Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. was crowned the winner of this season’s competition, earning the $1 million prize and the opportunity to headline a show in Las Vegas. In addition to revealing who America chose as its favourite act, last night’s episode boasted a slew of guest performers including Stevie Wonder, Patti LaBelle, Tony Bennett with Queen Latifah, Def Leppard, Jackie Evancho, LeAnn Rimes, OneRepublic and Cirque du Soleil “Iris.”

Also, fans of the Got Talent franchise can look forward to the launch of Citytv’s new original series, Canada’s Got Talent, coming to the prime time schedule in spring 2012. Auditions for Canada’s Got Talent kicked off this month in Winnipeg and Edmonton with next stops in Vancouver (Sept. 19-20), Montreal (Sept. 23-24), Toronto (Sept. 27-30) and Halifax (Oct. 11-12).
