(CALGARY, AB. - February 16, 2011) – Citytv’s Breakfast Television and Hockey Calgary will be teaming up for the first annual BT Outdoor Classic. This inaugural, fun-filled, local hockey tournament kicks off on Family Day (February 21) and culminates on February 25, with two gold medal games on the iconic NHL Heritage Classic ice at McMahon Stadium.

A total of 952 Atom hockey players (ages 9-10 years-old) will face off on ice rinks throughout Calgaryfrom February 21-25. The BT Outdoor Classic is accepting 56 teams and 7 divisions on a first come first serve basis.
Every morning throughout the tournament, there will be two, one-hour games played on an outside pond or rink in the city. These games will count towards the round-robin competition with LIVE coverage on Calgary’s morning show, Breakfast Television. Fans have the opportunity to cheer on their team and meet some of their favourite BT personalities live on location.
“We’re really excited to partner with Breakfast Television and give kids the opportunity to be a part of a very exciting hockey tournament. Playing hockey is all about having fun and making friends and this tournament will showcase just that,” said Perry Cavanagh, president, Hockey Calgary.
Friends, family, and fans, will have the chance to vote for their favourite divisions to play their final game at McMahon Stadium online. The two divisions that receive the most votes will get to play for gold on the same ice as the Calgary Flames and the Montreal Canadiens one week after the 2011 Heritage Classic.

Following the tournament on February 25, Calgarians will have the opportunity to skate on McMahon Ice for the remainder of the day courtesy of Citytv. With a skills competition in the early afternoon and a public skate from 3-8pm, kids and their families will get the once in a lifetime chance to skate on the same ice as the hockey greats.
