FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Citytv Reveals Contestants for My RONA Home
(Toronto – July 13, 2009) The final two families who will compete against each other on Citytv’s My RONA Home - the Mooney and the Cottrell/McCarty clans - were announced live on Breakfast Television Calgary and Edmonton earlier today. Following the overwhelming response to the My RONA Home open casting call at Citytv.com, the competition was narrowed down from 500 hopefuls to the final two families who will go head-to-head in the chance of a lifetime – to design, construct, decorate and win the home of their dreams. Principal photography on My RONA Home commences August 5 and the series is set to premiere Sunday, October 4 on Citytv in all markets.

“We are thrilled about the positive response we have received for the show so far,” commented Alain Strati, Vice President, Specialty & Development, Rogers Media Television. “We feel that Canada will really enjoy watching these two dynamic teams face-off in this unique competition series.”
Cameras were rolling as both families were greeted bright and early with the news that they would get their shot at owning a home valued at over $400,000. The only catch is that they have to build it from foundation to finish in only one month AND they have to do it better than the other team! Each family is matched with their own team of experts who, over the course of 10 one-hour episodes, work side by side, room by room, with a deadline of 30 hours to complete each phase of the work. The competition intensifies as both crews are required to live, eat, sleep and work side by side as they create their homes. Viewers will have their say as they ultimately decide whether it will be the Yellow Team (Moonie family) or the Blue Team (Cottrell/McCarty Family) who will win their house complete with all the furnishings.
Meet the Yellow Team:
Nicola and James Mooney have been a couple for six years. They’ve known each other since they were children and reconnected after their post secondary studies. They currently reside in Calgary with their two daughters Maggie (2) and Lyla (2 months). Nicola is on maternity leave from her job as an account manager and James is a financial advisor. They want to be part of My RONA Home because it is an experience they would love to look back on.
Meet the Blue Team:
Krystle Cottrell and Vernon McCarty met five years ago on a blind date and have been together ever since. They currently live in Airdrie with their 20-month old son Aeneas. Krystle, a native Calgarian, works part time at a spa, while Vernon, originally from Saint John, NB, is a sprinkler system installer. They want to be part of My RONA Home because the challenge of building their own home will bring them closer as a family, and they see this as another step along the way to achieving their many dreams.
